# Metrics by other column

> Compare net sentiment, NPS, averages, and other scores across the values of one column, such as brand or region, in a single table or tile view.

The **Metrics by other column** insight element compares several metrics side by side for each value of a breakout column. For example, you can show net sentiment of your open-ended feedback next to NPS or an average rating, broken out by brand, region, or store.

## When to use it

Use this element when you want to answer questions like:

* Which region has the best NPS, and does its feedback also have the highest net sentiment?
* How do brands compare on satisfaction score, star rating, and net sentiment at the same time?
* Which store has the most responses, and how does it score on each metric?

If you want to compare individual topics across column values, use the [Topic Breakdown / Heatmap](https://docs.caplena.com/insight-and-reports/insight-elements/topic-breakdown-heatmap.md) or [Topics by net sentiment](https://docs.caplena.com/insight-and-reports/insight-elements/topic-breakout-net-sentiment.md) instead.

## Add the element

1. In the Report Master, click **+ Add new insight element here**.
2. Choose **Metrics by other column**.
3. Under **Breakout column**, select the column whose values become the rows of the element, for example *Country* or *Brand*.
4. Under **Values**, select the columns to measure. Use the **+** button to add more values. You can add up to 8 values in total:
   * Up to 5 **Text to analyze** columns
   * Up to 5 **numerical** columns

Each value must use a different column.

## Metrics and score styles

Each value shows one metric. Open the element's settings to change the metric and how it's displayed.

| Value type | Available metrics | Score styles |
| - | - | - |
| Text to analyze column | **Net sentiment** | **Gauge**, **Pie** |
| Numerical column | **Average**, **NPS**, **Top bucket**, **Top 2 buckets**, **Bottom bucket**, **Bottom 2 buckets** | **Gauge**, **Pie**, **Stars & Number** |

By default, Text to analyze columns show net sentiment when the column has topics with sentiment enabled. Choosing **Stars & Number** displays the column's average as a star rating.

The element also shows **Mentions**, the number of responses for each breakout value.

## Table and tiles views

Switch between two views using the widget dropdown:

* **Table**: One row per breakout value and one column per metric, with a **TOTAL** row for all responses. Click a column header to sort.
* **Tiles**: A grid with one row per metric and one column per breakout value, plus a **TOTAL** column.

Use the **Top N values** selector to show the 3, 5, or 10 breakout values with the most responses. The table and tiles views share the same settings.

## Compare segments

When your report has [segments](https://docs.caplena.com/insight-and-reports/creating-and-customizing-reports/filters-segments-views.md) enabled, the element shows each metric per segment, marked with the segment colors. With exactly two segments enabled, the table also shows the difference between them for each metric.

## Drill down into responses

Click a breakout value, its response count, or a metric to open the responses behind it. Caplena filters the rows to that breakout value.

Click a part of a gauge or pie to narrow the rows further, for example to the negative mentions behind a net sentiment score or to the detractors behind an NPS.
